Reminder about validity of passports when travelling to Australia
Australia requires that your passport must be valid only for the period of your intended travel in and out of Australia. There is no requirement for your passport to be valid for six months after your travel.
You should allow a minimum of 6 weeks to receive a passport, no matter where you apply.
From 1 December 2024, the Australian Consulate-General (Auckland) will no longer be able to process cash payments for passport and notarial services. All applications and services will be payable via Eftpos, or credit/debit card in New Zealand dollars (NZD).
From 1st March 2024, Australian Passport and Notarial fees will be payable in Australian Dollars (AUD) via debit/credit card.
Effective from 1 September 2023, you will be required to provide a New Zealand Post pre-paid signature required self-addressed courier bag for the return of your passport. Check the New Zealand Post website for further information on courier bags.

Applying by post
Eligible clients may now apply to renew their adult passport by post. Please note this only applies to the below.
If you don’t meet these criteria, you’ll need lodge your application in person by appointment only. Options to book an appointment are at the bottom of this page.

Eligibility
For an Adult passport renewal, you must be 18 years and over and you will need a passport that:

was issued when you were aged 16 or older
-
was issued on or after 1 January 2006
-
had, when it was issued, at least two years’ validity
-
has your current name, date of birth, place of birth and gender, and
-
has not been reported lost, stolen, or cancelled.
If you can answer yes to all the above, complete your passport renewal application (PC7) online and post to the appropriate address below. Do not send your passport with your application.

From 1 January 2023, Child passport renewal (PC8) Application for an Australian Passport Overseas can be mailed-in provided the applicant/s meets the Eligibility criteria.

From 1 January 2023
Eligibility
Child passport renewal application/s (PC8) can be mailed-in provided the applicant is:

Aged up to 15 years old and
-
Has held a previous Australian passport
If you answer yes to the above, complete a Overseas Passport Application (PC8) form online for printing and post to the appropriate address below.
For first-time child applications and applicants aged 16-17, the application must be lodged in person by appointment only.

Passport services are provided during selected business hours, Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).
An appointment is required prior to attending the High Commission (Wellington) or Consulate-General (Auckland).
The Australian High Commission in Wellington provides passport services to Australian citizens in New Zealand.

An additional “Overseas Application Fee" will be applied to passport applications lodged overseas. The fee will not apply to Emergency passport applications as the validity of these passports is very limited.
Lost or stolen passport
Passports can only be reported lost or stolen by calling the Australian Passport Office Contact Centre (APOCC) on +61 131 232, via post overseas/state offices in Australia, or during the lodgement of a new application.
