About the Australian High Commissioner to New Zealand
HE Daniel Sloper PSM commenced as Australian High Commissioner to New Zealand on 20 March 2025.
Mr Sloper is a senior career officer with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT). He was most recently First Assistant Secretary, East Asia Division with oversight of relations with China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
His previous roles include First Assistant Secretary of the Pacific Division, where he led work on relations with New Zealand and Australia’s G20 Special Representative.
He has served overseas as Australia’s Special Representative on Afghanistan (based in Doha), as Deputy Head of Mission in Berlin, and in Tokyo.
About the Australian High Commission in New Zealand
The Australian High Commission is the official representative of the Australian Government in New Zealand. We provide a range of services to the general public, including consular, passport, visa and immigration, citizenship and cultural relations services. We also act on behalf of various Australian Government authorities by representing Australia's interests to local, regional and multilateral government and business organisations in New Zealand.
Accredited representation of Australia in New Zealand is the responsibility of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
The Australian High Commission in Wellington and the Australian Consulate-General in Auckland represent Australia in New Zealand, Tokelau and Pitcairn Islands.
Both diplomatic missions also act on behalf of Australian Government authorities by representing Australia's interests to government and business organisations. The Department of Home Affairs and the Department of Defence have offices at the High Commission.
