About The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high-quality overseas aid program, and helping Australian travelers and Australians overseas. The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional, and bilateral interests.

About the position

Under direction, the role will work closely with the Property Manager and assist in the provision of property services at the Australian High Commission. The position is also responsible for inventory management and driving support for the Australian High Commission.

Key responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

  1. Assist the Property Manager with the provision of property services for the High Commission, official residence and staff residences, in accordance with departmental guidelines, including repair and maintenance work, and other property related projects.

  2. Provide maintenance works, including general and minor repairs to High Commission, official and staff residences. This includes ownership and maintenance of the High Commission workshop. Supervise contractors and perform quality assurance as required.

  3. Manage inventory including furniture purchases, settling in/out kits, furniture removals, storage, and disposal activities. Maintain non-ICT asset registers and perform stock takes including disposal action as required.

  4. Manage and maintain crisis and emergency stores, including scheduled checks of first aid and fire equipment and Civil Defence stores at the High Commission and official residence.

  5. Establish, develop, and maintain strong working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders including building management, landlords, key suppliers, and service providers. 

  6. Arrange and support the set-up and breakdown of events and functions at the High Commission and official residence.

  7. Provide efficient, safe, courteous, and reliable driving to the Head of Mission, and provide diplomatic mail and messenger services, as required.

  8. Perform other duties as required.

 

Qualifications and Experience

  • Demonstrate a high level of customer service and interpersonal skills. 

  • Demonstrate initiative and self-direction in managing conflicting deadlines and difficult situations.

  • Ability to carry out, as instructed, simple maintenance tasks at the High Commission and residences.

  • Flexible team player willing to assist colleagues. 

  • Excellent time management and a strength in administration and organisational skills. 

  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Require a current and full New Zealand Driver License with no convictions. 

  • Driving knowledge of the Wellington region is highly desired.

 

What we offer the Successful Candidate

  • Annual salary of NZ$67,200 plus KiwiSaver employer contribution equivalent to 6% of salary
