The Department of Home Affairs is a central policy agency, providing coordinated strategy and policy leadership for Australia's national and transport security, cyber security, border, immigration, multicultural affairs, emergency management and trade related functions.

Immigration Programs Division delivers the permanent migration and temporary visa programs to maximise the long-term economic and social benefits to Australia across the Skilled, Family and Resident Return visa programs, and through Temporary entry to support tourism, education and international relations.

 

Caseload Risk and Integrity Program Overview

Offshore integrity teams, in collaboration with integrity teams in Australia, are part of a global caseload risk and integrity network.  The primary role of the Caseload Risk and Integrity team is to identify tactical, entity or caseload specific risks in the visa programs processed in their location/region and to also support onshore processing locations in identifying risks related to nationals of the Pacific region.

 

About the position

Under the general direction of the Integrity Manager, the Locally Engaged Integrity Officer (LEIO) will provide specialist administrative support and will engage with a variety of stakeholders to manage risk in visa caseloads. The Integrity Officer will manage their own workflow and will work in line with established procedures, proactively identifying process/procedure enhancements where appropriate.

 

The key responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

  • Conduct research and analysis to support visa and cancellations decision making and contribute to caseload reporting.
  • Analyse country of origin information to understand the context, risk, veracity and genuineness of straightforward visa and citizenship applications, particularly in relation to child custody and criminal convictions matters.
  • Conduct system interrogation and basic open-source research to establish the identity of applicants and/or persons of interest and the veracity of their visa and citizenship claims/eligibility for entry to Australia.
  • Use a variety of departmental and external systems to identify risk indicators, and document authenticity issues.
  • Prepare case notes to assist with assessment of visa applications and support the escalation and review of visa, citizenship and cancellation decisions.
  • Identify and provide data or information for use in reports, briefs, submissions, risk registers and/or talking points as required.
  • Provide quality control and quality assurance on visa decisions and ensure decision-making complies with established visa processes.
  • Under the direction of the Integrity Manager, undertake caseload sampling activities of visa subclasses to identify emerging risks, trends and training needs.
  • Work collaboratively with visa program delivery teams and key external stakeholders to support visa processes and activities.
  • Undertake site visit trips and contribute to the preparation of associated reports and analysis as required.
  • Contribute to visa and citizenship capability development.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of training.
  • Provide support and guidance to less experienced decision makers.

     

Qualifications/Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in equivalent roles.
  • Excellent written and oral English language skills
  • Experience in the use of computing programs including with Microsoft Excel, particularly the ability to use these systems to analyse and interrogate data.
  • Well-developed communication and liaison skills, including demonstrated ability to liaise with multiple stakeholders.
  • Developed analytic skills capable of drawing together multiple sources of information.
  • Experience undertaking data analysis and contributing to high quality written reports on the findings.
  • Experience with assessing information and making decisions based on legislation
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others, in a culturally diverse work environment.
